His Excellency Yackoley Kokou Johnson, the Togolese ambassador to the UK, was at the University of Portsmouth last week to take part in a conference on the fight against piracy and maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea. The event was organised by the Centre for European and International Studies Research (CEISR) University.
The diplomat discussed with the participants, the upcoming Lome conference, on maritime security and development in Africa, to be held on 15 October in Lomé in cooperation with the African Union.
The experts and academics present at the debate welcomed Togo’s leadership on the issue and encouraged the country to do its best to establish mechanisms to ensure the exchange of information between countries and to secure funding for the fight against piracy and smuggling at sea.
