Robert Dussey, Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Guest at Chatham House in London

 

Robert Dussey, the head of the Togolese diplomacy, was on Tuesday in London, the guest of Chatham House (Royal Institute of International Affairs), a strategic think tank on maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. The presence of Mr. Dussey is not accidental. His country will host on October 15 an international summit on maritime security in cooperation with the African Union.

The minister emphasises the crucial part of the maritime economy in the general economy of coastal and island states. It contributes at least 70% of GDP and make up to three quarter of the fiscal resources. The landlocked countries rely strategically on maritime trade flows passing through the states bordering oceans. 92 % of trade to and from Africa are made by the sea.
