On 15 October 2016, Togo will host the African Union Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on Maritime Security and Development in Africa. This summit aims to produce a roadmap with workable policy recommendations to encourage the emergence of a blue economy in Africa. The commitment of diverse stakeholders is required to ensure progress in the establishment of the sea as a key driver of development for the African continent.
At this seminar, the speakers will focus on the blue economy and how combating issues of maritime security, organised crime, IUU fishing, marine conservation and development planning can enable the maritime space to play a part in Africa’s economic development.
